What is Acromioplasty?
Shoulder tendons are what is covered by acromion which is part of the scapula. This acromion can be bent/change in shape thus resulting in pre-mature contact with the tendon. This further causes rubbing during the physical movement of the shoulder. It further causes the tendons to become inflamed and then rupture. This is treated by the surgery called Acromioplasty. In this surgery, the inferior side of the acromion is resected for its flattening. This prevents rubbing during movements. It is achieved using a flat motorized cutter, which relieves the pain and prevents premature wear of the tendon. This operation is performed without opening the shoulder, with the help of small incisions and a camera to visualize the joints. The surgery preserves the shoulder muscles and also helps in rapid recovery.
This pain does not disappear spontaneously, and it sustains the inflammation of the tendons. In these conditions, the tendons gradually weaken and ruptures and further causes discomfort. Hence surgery followed by physiotherapy is a must for people suffering from this disorder. well, Sometimes people are not able to come in clinic due to Acromioplasty Physiorevive provide the services of physiotherapy at home in delhi
Physiotherapy after Acromioplasty:-
The next day post-surgery, the physiotherapist will help you assist you in moving your shoulder. Post-surgery, the recovery and the rehabilitation process is carried out with the help of exercises prescribed by the physiotherapists. You must move the shoulder as per the advice of the therapist to get the complete soft tissue healing. Phase one of the exercises will begin while you are still using the sling. These exercises play a great role in recovering shoulder flexibility and coordination. In these execises, your physiotherapist will help you doing few sets of neck motions that is moving them slowly left to right. Next, this is followed by side bending and you can also try stretching your neck backwards. Please make sure that you do these exercises only under the strict supervision of physiotherapists as any error can cause you the newly repaired delicate shoulder.
Activities involving maximum shoulder movements such as writing, driving, lifting weight will be stopped for 15 days and depending upon the recovery of your shoulder, you can return to work within 2 months of surgery. For the sportsperson, depending upon the kind of sports they play they can return to the ground within 2- 4 months. If the sports involves not giving a lot of strain on the shoulder, the recovery time of 2 months would suffice and if it does then it's 4 months.
